Navigating St. George People Directories
No single directory lists everyone connected to St. George. Each source answers a narrower question. Government rosters identify public contacts. School and university pages show staff. Property viewers connect parcels with owners. License portals confirm professional status, while yearbooks and historical indexes preserve names that vanished from current lists. The best source depends on the role, era, or address already known.
| Local directory | People represented | Record keeper | How to reach it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Government department rosters | Officials and selected city, county, and state staff | St. George, Washington County, and Utah | Free public pages; department contact fallback |
| Education rosters | School staff and Utah Tech faculty | WCSD and Utah Tech | Public school or department pages; full WCSD directory restricted |
| Property viewers | Parcel owners and tax contacts | Washington County Recorder, Assessor, and GIS | Free interactive viewers; paid bulk files |
| Professional lookups | Utah licensees, agents, brokers, and appraisers | Utah licensing divisions | Free name search with human verification |
| Chamber member list | Member organizations and some managers | St. George Area Chamber of Commerce | Free keyword, category, and alphabet browse |
| Historical collections | Past residents, students, parents, owners, and officers | Utah Tech, State Archives, FamilySearch, and libraries | Digital collections, finding aids, catalog, or reference request |
These St. George people directories also differ in what a listing proves. A chamber profile shows membership, not legal control of a company. A tax mailing address identifies the tax contact, not necessarily the parcel occupant. A yearbook places a person in an institution and time, but spelling, nicknames, and skipped publication years still matter.
St. George Government Directory Routes
St. George and Washington County do not offer a verified, unified employee directory. Start with the relevant department page, an elected-body roster, or a public notice. City and county pages may name a contact, title, office line, or email. The Utah Public Notice system can add the contact name, email, phone, address, and notices for a public body. If no person is named, call the department’s main line or ask its records officer for the right contact.
The Utah state employee directory is more structured. It requires both a first and last name. The public form does not expose agency, location, browsing, or wildcard controls, and it warns against using results for marketing. This narrow field set makes exact spelling important.
| Search control | Input type | Required | Use note |
|---|---|---|---|
| First Name | Text | Yes | Enter the employee’s first name |
| Last Name | Text | Yes | Enter the employee’s last name |
| Search | Button | Yes | No public agency or location filter was found |
The St. George city website shows how city contacts are arranged by department rather than through one name box.
Use the department path when a broad staff-directory search does not exist. That route also helps distinguish a city contact from a county office at the same local address.
Note: A public contact roster lists work roles and official channels, not a complete personal profile or every government employee.
St. George Education Directories
Education listings split between public rosters and restricted staff systems. Washington County School District says its full directory requires a district-domain login. Public school pages, department pages, and year-specific handbooks remain useful. They may identify principals, assistants, counselors, registrars, front-office and attendance staff, food-service teams, custodial staff, media or technology contacts, and faculty.
The Washington County School District website is the starting point for school and staff resources.
Choose the individual school before looking for a person. A school-level roster is more likely to preserve the staff role and current contact than a general district landing page.
Utah Tech has a people directory, though its live interface could not be verified during research. Public department cards and the faculty catalog provide dependable alternatives. A typical department entry can show several work fields:
| Name | Full or preferred name, sometimes with credentials |
|---|---|
| Position | Rank, title, department, or leadership role |
| Contact | Institutional email and work phone when published |
| Office | Campus building or room when provided |
| Profile | Portrait, grouping, and a link to more details on some department cards |
| Faculty history | Catalog entries may add joined year, degrees, and prior institutions |
St. George Property Owner Directories
Washington County’s property tools act like owner directories, but each layer serves a different purpose. The Recorder Viewer shows owner and property data, reports, and mailing labels. The Assessor Viewer adds reports, images, sketches, and valuation details. GIS joins the parcel to a map. The Old Abstract spans 1854 through 1992, and ownership plats preserve historical parcel relationships by year.
The Washington County map inventory presents the recorder, assessor, GIS, and related viewers together. For a St. George address, retain the direction and exact tax ID as the trail moves from map to owner label. A mailing address may differ from the physical, or situs, address without proving that the owner lives elsewhere.
Directory limit: A GIS parcel label is not a deed chain, and the parcel number itself is not the legal description of the land.
Interactive owner labels are free. Reusable bulk owner data is different: Washington County’s Public Extract or Assessment Roll is paid, with a parcel subscription listed at $500 initially and $100 per update. For access rules, copies, and formal requests beyond these directory views, use the St. George public records access resource.
St. George Professional Directories
The Utah Division of Professional Licensing directory covers a broad set of regulated fields. Search by name and profession or by license number. Name mode accepts examples such as a full name, an initial and surname, or a surname alone. Results can begin with the entered text or contain it, and profession checkboxes narrow a common name. License-number mode accepts a core number and an optional four-digit identifier.
The DOPL Licensee Lookup and Verification shows the statewide professional directory form used for St. George licensees.
A result can identify the licensee, profession or license type, core and full license number, status, issue and expiration data, and any public qualification or discipline link available for that profession. A CAPTCHA limits automated use.
Real estate has a separate official directory for agents, brokers, appraisers, firms, and related license types. The Utah Real Estate license search supports name or company text, profession, beginning or containing matches, and license numbers.
Use the real-estate portal for brokerage or appraisal detail and DOPL for the wider range of state-regulated occupations. The Utah State Bar directory and state education-license verification cover professions outside the richest umbrella search.
Note: A public license result confirms the status and fields shown; it does not make a nonpublic complaint investigation open.
St. George Chamber Directory
The St. George Area Chamber member directory offers an optional keyword field, a category list, a Go button, and a 0 through 9 or A through Z browse. Results may show an organization, address, phone, short or full description, category, and sometimes a manager on an extended profile. The chamber reports more than 1,000 organizations, but the list is a membership directory rather than proof of legal ownership.
For legal business roles, Utah corporation records are the stronger directory. State products may identify officers, principals, partners, and registered agents. Washington County incorporation files add a historical layer from 1891 through 1961, with articles, amendments, officer oaths, annual reports, and correspondence arranged on nine alphabetic microfilm reels. St. George business licenses are another local check, but no official public city licensee-name index was found. The city finance counter or a records request is the fallback.
St. George Yearbook Directory Trail
Utah Tech’s UA-009 yearbook collection spans 1913 through 2001, with print books through 2000 and a video yearbook in 2001. Some years without an annual are represented by paper commencement items. The books can place students and faculty among classes, clubs, teams, events, and advertisers. Before 1964, college annuals can also include high-school students because the institutions shared books.
The school’s names changed often. Search St. George Stake Academy, Dixie Academy, Dixie Normal College, Dixie Junior College, Dixie College, Dixie State College or University, and Utah Tech. “Dixie” remains an essential catalog term even where the present institution uses another name.
- Open the Utah Tech digital yearbook collection and choose the closest known year.
- Check adjacent classes, clubs, teams, handwritten notes, and commencement substitutes for name variants and associates.
- Carry the full name and date into a later official directory, obituary source, or archived record.
For classmate reconnection, the exact-year book often yields more than a name alone. Group photos, inscriptions, and recurring activities can distinguish people who share a surname.
St. George School Directory Years
Utah Tech Special Collections also holds Washington County school yearbooks under WASH-031. The finding aid describes 3.5 cubic feet and a 1928 through 1997 range, while its abstract says the oldest item dates to 1924. Coverage is fragmented. Woodward Junior High runs from 1939 through 1976 with many missing years. Dixie Junior High has 1937 and 1977 through 1983. Dixie High has selected years from 1961 through 1992.
The collection also names Hurricane High, Enterprise, Pine View Middle, and Pine View High. Exact years are not parsed for every school. Consult the WASH-031 finding aid before planning a visit or request. Handwriting and snapshots can add friendships and activities that a formal roster omits.
Special Collections is at 330 Holland Centennial Commons, 225 South 700 East in St. George. Access is available during stated hours or by appointment after an application and photo identification.
Historical St. George Directory Layers
A confirmed catalog title, Polk’s St. George, Washington County, Utah city directory, covers St. George, Bloomington, Santa Clara, and Washington City. The exact years and any reverse, or street-address, sections were not verified. Contact the library or catalog holder before claiming a volume is available. The Washington County Library also does not publish an exact inventory of reverse directories, phone books, obituary indexes, newspaper microfilm, or licensed genealogy databases.
The Washington County Library website is the official starting point for local-history and database help.
Call the St. George Branch at 435-301-7580 for a shelf check. The branch is at 88 West 100 South and publishes hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
- City directory
- A resident and business list usually arranged by surname.
- Reverse directory
- A list arranged by street address, useful when the place is known but the resident is not.
- Old Abstract
- Washington County’s title-history layer covering 1854 through 1992.
- Finding aid
- An archive’s description of a collection, its dates, arrangement, size, and access terms.
Other historical directories fill gaps around the Polk title. Washington County birth registers from 1898 through 1905 list a child, parents, event details, and residence. Fifth District indexes can name parties in civil, criminal, and probate matters, with records older than fifty years potentially transferred to the Utah State Archives. Incorporation files list corporate officers from 1891 through 1961. Together they turn several separate record sets into a richer St. George directory trail.
Limits of St. George Directories
Several useful-sounding sources could not be verified as public directories. There is no confirmed unified city or county employee search, no open full WCSD employee directory, and no public neighborhood, congregation, alumni, veterans, fraternal, or consolidated funeral-home index. St. George and Tonaquint Cemeteries also lack a verified public burial-name index. For a burial question, provide the cemetery, full name, and an approximate date to Parks or the city records process.
Choose a documented fallback instead of treating absence from a web search as absence from St. George. Department pages can replace a staff index. School rosters can replace the locked district directory. A library shelf check can confirm an old directory. Archive finding aids can locate yearbooks, birth registers, court indexes, and business-officer files. For any search, use public information lawfully and never to stalk, harass, threaten, or expose a protected address.
